Hi, I’m Megan! Growing up I always had a love for animals – I wanted to become a veterinarian so I followed the vet med path in college. I did undergraduate research on chicken embryos of all things! I was always a weird bird girl that would rescue and rehabilitate just about anything I found. Upon graduating college, I ended up working at Merck Animal Health. I thought it’d be temporary but I never left! I learned so much about the animal health industry, specifically related to chickens and vaccines. I was a technician on the production side for a few years and produced the Coccivac vaccine. I eventually ended up in Quality Control and I’ve been there ever since! I have extensive knowledge on biosecurity, genetics and chicken diseases and health. In 2019 my now husband and I got a few egg layers. I ended up buying a few silkies from Tractor Supply and I was so confused on why they didn’t look as nice as the ones I saw online. Long story short, I ended up finding a breeder close to me, drove a few hours for 4 silkies and…well the rest was history. I became addicted, sold off all my layers and went from purchasing birds to incubating shipped eggs, to establishing Silkies On The Shore in 2020. I became NPIP and AI clean so I could share my birds with fellow breeders and chicken enthusiasts. I breed towards the SOP – I am not a super active show participant, but I do show my birds when I have time! I have decided to take my love for chickens, graphic design, and helping others to create this website for my farm! I am super active on social media. However, I hope to branch this site into not just being about our farm, but being a one stop shop for all things silkies – genetics, care taking to showing.
